Full membership is open to both men and ladies over the age of 18 and who are amateur golfers.
This level of membership entitles members to play on the golf course at all times, except when the tees are reserved, and to use the clubhouse facilities.
There are many opportunities for active members to enjoy competitive golf, with a number of the club's golf competitions open to both the men and ladies members. There are also a large number of golf competitions and events that are specific to the men members and a number specific to the lady members.
One of the great strengths of the club is the opportunity for members to play social golf. Weekday and weekend ‘swindles' are run, where members gather and draw playing partners, for a friendly, yet competitive social game.
As well as regular men's and ladies Medal and Stableford competitions, the club holds annual sociable golf events such as Captain's Day, Pro's Day, Four Nations Charity Day, golfer/non-golfer games, married couples leagues, and men's and ladies Christmas Fayre.
Men's competitions are mostly played at the weekends, with “In the Week†events also scheduled. These competitions include play in Stableford, Medal, Greensomes, and Foursomes formats. There is an “Order of Merit†with points awarded for places achieved in various summer competitions, and a number of “knock-out†matchplay events running through the summer and the winter.
A summer eclectic competition (where you keep your best score on each hole) is held on Thursdays during late spring and summer. This provides a great chance to meet and play golf with a wide spectrum of members and have some fun along the way.
We have a number of men's golf teams that play regional, county, and local inter-club matches. Our Scratch team has won leagues and tournaments and its members have represented the county at national level. We have Tigers and Foxes teams that play matches with handicaps of 4 to 10, and 10 to 19, respectively. A Social team that is open to all members, and a Commandos team with its playing members being 55 years old or over. All our inter-club matches, for whatever team, are social as well as golf events with the matches normally being followed by a meal and often the tales of the round.
Tuesday is Ladies' Day, when club competitions are played, including Stableford, medal, better ball, knock-out, and foursomes games. A number of business ladies play at the weekend when they also have the opportunity to play in club competitions and club matches.
Our ‘big days' are the Lady Captain's Day in June, two Invitation Days (Spring and Autumn), and the Christmas Fayre. There are also spring and autumn meetings, which involve a medal round in the morning, lunch, and fun competitions in the afternoon followed by dinner in the evening with prize giving. We also hold a Ladies' Open and Ladies' Centenary Scratch Open.
We have two teams in the Ladies County Scratch League and each year we compete in the Pearson Trophy - a handicap competition - against other clubs in Hertfordshire. There are also opportunities to play in friendly matches with surrounding clubs.
